SOCIAL GUIDANCE AND DISCIPLINE
This workshop addresses appropriate ways to set limits for children and guide the development of their social skills. Participants will have the opportunity to consider appropriate and inappropriate strategies for guidance and discipline, and will explore these in a hands-on manner. Topics covered include: discipline solutions and techniques that do not include punishment of any kind; achieving the child's cooperation without power struggles and "battles"; understanding and dealing with tantrums and verbal or physical aggression; and using appropriate conflict-resolution techniques. This workshop concludes with a discussion of real-life situations encountered by participants, followed by the exploration of hands-on tools and methods that will bring about more successful results in such situations.
